British Summer Time was Amazing

Hyde Park yesterday for British Summer Time was Amazing

I went with my friends Chris 1 and Chris 2 (the same two I went to London with on Tuesday) and Chris 2’s Dad. We left Bournemouth and headed for Salisbury, where we were meeting Chris number 2 Dad and we headed for London.

I just have to say real quick, meeting Chris 2 Dad was so much fun and he is funny and straight up and honest as they come. Most people when they first meet me (And most wheelchair users probably get this) people treat you with “kiddie gloves” on “Beat around the bush” at first, not this guy and I like it and I respected him for it because I don’t get a whole lot of it.

We made it to London

We parked the car up and headed for Hyde Park, we got told it was a 10minute walk from where we parked. More like 30 – 40minute, that Park is bloody huge we got lost well not lost we just took the long way through the Park. hahaha

We got there in the end, and it was Hello

British Summer Time for £2.50

We got in and meet up with some other friends of Chris 2, and set up camp got some ciders and food in and waited for the bands.
I got to see Motorhead for the 6th time, they were great as always and it was great to see Lemmy Kilmister (Has already spent enough time at home, sidelined for nearly a year by a small avalanche of health issues: heart trouble, diabetes, surgery and more) back on stage where he belongs playing Rock and Roll.

After Motorhead had finished, I need a wee I went on my own to find a disabled toilet. When I got back all my friends and new friends I made had a go at me because I was ages, but truth is I got lost they were all like we thought you may have pulled at the toilets and gone off for a quickie, I was like I wish but truth Is I just got lost.

The disabled toilets were good though and very big, which is good more room the better makes life that little bit easier.

By the time I got back to my friends, Faith No More just came on the stage and they were good but I saw them back in 2009 at Download and they were way better back then.

The next two bands, was what I was really there for Soundgarden and Black Sabbath

Soundgarden were amazing and they played Superunknown in its full, and then Black Sabbath come on the stage and blow me away with how fucking great they were, and they kicked things off with War Pigs I could have gone home  happy after that one song :-)  (War Pigs is my all time favourite Black Sabbath song)

I was doing some serious air bass slapping when this number hit

Yesterday was full of so many Rocking moments and all for £2.50 just the fucking best. \m/

Now I am off to Hyde Park in London for British Summer Time, to see Black Sabbath Fuck Yea... \m/

I am so excited; I’m like a fat kid with a fat slab of cake. Yes! That excited also getting to see Soundgarden and Faith No More and it only cost us £2.50 a ticket.

Amazing best way to spent £2.50 ever

Hope everyone has a great weekend, keep it safe, have fun and stay strong (I don’t know that just sounded good) I’ll be kick starting this weekend off with some Rocking Good Times in Hyde Park with my friends.

Peace and Love Always :-)

Great News

Quick update

I received a letter in the post today, from the head of my team Dr Emma Murphy

Here’s what it said

I have received letters from Mr Evan Davies (that’s my spinal doctor) and also the cardiac review letter from the Adult Congenital Cardiology Clinic from 27/02/12.

The Cardiology Clinic for those who may not know is, where I go to see my heart team because I have a dodgy ticker... just joking last time I went they it was all fine and they discharged me for 5 years.

Continuing with the letter

I not you have been discharged from Mr Davies clinic. The cardiology team simply wanted to review you in five years time i.e. around 2017. (Which I knew about, because I already have the letter it came a year ago which is crazy)

Good news that I  have been discharged from my back doctor, that must mean my back is okay and my curves in my scoliosis haven’t got any worse.

Sorry I haven’t been blogging a whole lot on the FA side of life, that’s because not a whole lot has been going on to be honest. Yeah I’ve had a few accidents here and there (Mainly due to failings in equipment) and anyway accidents is a Normal thing in the life of an FA’er, when something big goes down I’ll be sure to blog about it.

Until that day comes, I’m going enjoy being doctor free a little bit longer. :-)

Super Groovy Times last night, with Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith aka Jay and Silent Bob in London

We had some Super Groovy Times last night, with Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith aka Jay and Silent Bob in London.

I went with my two friends, named Chris. The event was at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith, London and it was sold out.

First off we got treated to the podcast, by Ralph Garman and Kevin smith Hollywood Babble-On
which was so funny, I laughed my ass off.

After that there was a short break, and then we got to see the Jay and Silent Bob: Super Groovy Cartoon Movie.

http://seesmod.com/groovymovie/

That was super funny too, and there was something special about watching it with a sold out crowd of 3600, felt like one big ass cinema but with lots of laughing, was ace.

I have dreamed about seeing Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith for years now, and missed out on the other talks they have done here in the UK. Last night was a dream come true moment, I was there seeing them two doing what they do best, dick and fat jokes hahaha that’s just my sense of humour and everybody’s that was in the crowd last night.

After the movie had ended, we got treated to a little Q&A with Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith and a guy asked his girlfriend to marry him
(Congrats to the lovely couple who got engaged during our Babble/Groovy show last night! You melted 3600 hearts!) Kevin Smith started talking about film making and doing podcasts and stuff, I forget his hole speech he said but in short term he said, look just go for it, give it a shot (I know he was just talking about podcasts and things) but that’s a really good way of looking at life, when it comes to doing things we should just go for it.

Also I should add that the Eventim Apollo has got better on the disabled side of life. They have changed it from last time I was there, and let me say it’s for the better so well done and thank you Eventim Apollo improving your disabled facilities.

Last night was so much fun; I hope Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith come back soon.

The Fault in Our Stars

Last night I went to the cinema to see The Fault in Our Stars

Now before I continue, please note that I have not read the book, but I plan to in the very near future.

The film is about a teenage girl who has cancer, and I think I loved this film so much because I could relate to it on so many levels, okay I don’t have cancer but I was diagnosed with a debilitating, life-shortening, degenerative neuro-muscular disorder called Friedreich’s Ataxia at 15. (So in short term, yeah I am a dying man but it’s okay we are all going to die one day, it’s the one and only thing we are guaranteed in this) sorry if that’s a bit full on, just being honest, truth-shooting as a friend called me one time.

This film is sad yes, but it’s also powerful, inspirational, very moving and positive. It touched upon real life events and captured them really well, again I could relate, because I myself have been in a few of those situations on which the film touched upon.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my big blockbuster films as much as the next guy. Like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Godzilla, X-Men: Days of Future Past, but there is just something I really love with films like this maybe it is the fact that I can relate to them, I don’t know the just feeling more real (Like they touch your heart, if that make sense)

I think they got everything right with this film, the direction and cinematography was fantastic, not a single shot felt odd or out of place and every shot matched the scene and felt real. The acting was amazing too. It made the two characters feel real and alive, their performances were so heartfelt and definitely Oscar worthy. They probably won’t get recognised for it, which is a shame because most will put this down as just another teenage love story... but it’s so much more.

This movie is one of the best romantic comedies that have ever touched the face of the earth. I encourage EVERYONE to go see this movie no matter what age you are. I am a 26 year old (straight guy, not that it matters) but even my eyes teared up a lot, and one part of the film broke me into a lot of tears.  Bring a packet of tissues as well, you’ll need it

I give this film, a well deserved
10/10

Today has been a very Positive and Productive Day

Today was a productive day; we (I and mum) attended a meeting for Bournemouth University Carer and Service User Partnership.

We got asked to attend the meeting, because they are trying to put together a welcome booklet for new Carer and Service Users. Also they wanted to hear our ideas and input on what we thought should go in to this welcome pack, so I had to think back to before I got involved in this which wasn’t too hard as I only signed up a few months ago.

There were 7 people in the meeting, and it was all positive I think between us we came up with some good stuff to go into this pack. When this booklet gets made, hopefully I can get my hands on one and I’ll post some picture’s so you can see it.

We talked and disgust so much today and we got on the topic of fire alarm drills, so I shared my story of that time I got left in a room on a fire alarm drill by my own.

Here it is if you have never read it

I was doing a web design course and we were doing it up at Bournemouth University. And one day as we were all in the class doing our work and then the fire alarm goes off, and the tutor say’s right leave all your stuff and make your way outside. Everybody dose including the tutor and it’s just me left in the class room alone and I am in my wheelchair. This class room was on the 3rd floor so I could not take the stairs plus I could no longer walk, so that option was out. I was sat there like what the hell do I do, so I rolled out into the hall way and this guy shouted hey over here, I’ll hold the lift for you. So we took the lift down, and then when we arrived outside and this woman started having a pop at us for using the lift because, if it had been a real fire the lift would have got stuck. Turns out what I was meant to do was wait in the class room and the tutor was meant to carry me down the stairs, which I turned round and said if it was a real fire I’d be burning up stairs,  as my tutor ran out and left me. And she didn’t know what to say and all my tutor could say was I am so sorry I forgot about you being disabled.  Nice of that tutor hey I didn’t mind though being forgotten I didn’t appreciate the shouting from that woman, that was my first time of been in a wheelchair and a fire alarm going off I didn’t know what the rules were of what I was meant to do. When you go into a wheelchair you don’t go to wheelchair school or get a manual, you got to learn it all for yourself.

They are going to look into it, and I think they want to set up a fire alarm drill for when they have some more wheelchair users in the building.

And on the bus on the way home, we got talking to this top lady form the University and she looked at me and said “so what course are you doing? To which I replied none I’m a Service User, I think she was a little bit taken back by that.  We got talking about my day, and on the topic of fire alarm drills again and she was like that’s a really important thing and she wanted to give me her business card but she had run out, and my mum looked at me and said I bet you don’t have yours... but Yes! I did, so I gave her one and she said she was going to email me sometime.

Today has been a very positive and productive day, and even got some networking done today who knows it may lead to some new doors opening for me. :-)
