As promised here is the feedback from the talk I took part
in Thursday the 2nd of October.
So much positive feedback there are some real gems including:
·
please keep educating
us students: we have a long way to go!
|
·
This was an invaluable
session – it brought what career we have chosen into reality. Both the SU and
Carer’s stories were important to hear and I will certainly remember many of
the points discussed.
|
And you have to love this one. . .
•
The seating could have been rearranged to make it less formal (I will
bring screwdrivers next time so that we can rearrange the lecture theatre!!!)
Enjoy the rest and happy reading.

placements and when practising in skills sessions
·
After working in the NHS for 4 years, it’s nice to see the Trust through
the eyes of the patient. It’s an amazing insight, which truly showed the
importance of, not only the medical care, but how the whole experience is
communicated.

·
The effects of all aspects of
the healthcare professionals’ communication; body language, listening skills
etc. not just what they say.
·
Lots of tips on how to improve
our communication methods and what to avoid. Nice to get a service user point
of view.

The importance of adapting
communication with each person you deal with and treating people as a whole

The importance of communicating
effectively and the potential consequences of this if communication breaks

That communication is the most
important aspect of the job

To be myself because we are all
people and we want to be treated as people and not just therapist and
patient.
·
To be aware of patients’
feelings that may not be conveyed verbally.
·
That OTs play an important role
and it is important that we remember we are humans!
·
I learnt a lot of tips from both
of you that I can put into practice throughout the course.
·
Communication can be conveyed in
so many ways, from what is intended to how it is viewed by others
·
Carers are just as important as
patients

Self-awareness and awareness of
others is important to be able to communicate effectively

interesting to hear from both the SU and the Carer about their experiences.

More time (3)
·
More time for questions (3)
·
Allow more time for Q&A (3)
·
Nothing (3)
·
Nothing; well planned out
·
Left blank (4)
·
More time for questions
·
Professional’s view??
·
Maybe been given a quick
break/talking time between the end of talk and questions, so have some time
to think about what we would like to ask.
·
More time with the service
users; maybe getting to speak on a 1:1 if we didn’t feel comfortable asking
questions in public.
Some
students interpret this question to mean what could have been done
differently for the SU or carer
·
Many things and the
underlying route was communication. I feel like they both could have had more
support. However it seemed like the OTs in both situations were the best sort
of help
